THINGS I'VE MISSED ABOUT FINLAND

Bremen - Tampere €22,90, thanks Ryanair!
1. Irtokarkit.
Nam. Espanjassa ei ole mitään Suomen kaltaista.

2. Bussien ja junien toimivuus
Siis kaukobussit lähtevät oikeasti minuutilleen ajoissa. Uskomatonta.

3. Maitotuotteet
Täällä on niin hyviä jugurtteja, juustoja, rahkoja...

5. Rauhallisuus
On ihan okei olla lähtemättä minnekään

1. Pick 'n' Mix
Yum. Spain's got absolutely nothing on Finland.

2. Transport functionality
Long-distance buses actually run on time. Unbelievable.

3. Dairy products
We have splendid yogurts, cheeses, quarks...

4. Sauna and wet room
Even going to the shower feels luxurious here when it can be done in a room instead of a cabin or bath tub!

 5. Tranquility
It's completely fine to stay in and do absolutely nothinggg.

Ok, yeahh, I'm already at that point where you kind of get bored of being home with no work or studies... But these are some things that made me really happy upon my return. It'll be great to go back to Spain all relaxed and stuff!

WHY I HAD TO LEAVE ITALY

Instagramissa seuraajat oottekin nähneet, että lähdin Saksan kautta takaisin Suomeen tuossa joku viikko sitten. Ehkä vähän yllättävääkin, kun katsotaan tuota ekan viikon au pair -postausta, jonka jälkeen en päivitellyt mitään asiaan liittyen.

So, those of you who follow me in Instagram have probably seen that I left Italy about a week ago. I know, I know... might be a bit surprising after my first happy post about au pairing!

You might remember how I was complaining that my free time and work are getting all mixed up. In the beginning, I thought it was just the usual blundering you have, and that it would get better along with the routines. Well, that certainly wasn't the case. They wanted me to be more active with the kids (which is pretty difficult, if you don't know if you're working or not) and to spend more time with the whole family. It was distressing, because I thought I had spent way less time on my own than I usually do. A nice little detail was them comparing me to their previous au pairs who spent significantly more time with them and that I should be more like their sister's au pair. That makes me sick, you cannot just compare persons like that. Also, if you tell me I can go home "after I finish" and expect me to spend more time with the family, how is that gonna work?

So I told them I'm not the au pair they're looking for, I'm leaving and I already bought my flights. It seemed as if they took it well, but I understand that my non-negotiability must have annoyed them a bit. But what was I to do? They also said that I had spent fewer hours than we agreed with the kids (??) and that I had been alone sooo much that they didn't see where I was coming from. "Our previous au pairs have always come to every event with us and you usually stay home if we go somewhere!" Well yeah, normal people might need some time to read a book/go jogging/do blogging/have a skyping session/start studying Italian or just to wind down...

The last days weren't awkward at all, but I realized the children couldn't behave themselves. I have no idea what the parents told them, but especially the middle one became horrible. So amazed, how a seven-year-old can whinge and cry so much. To top it off, I had (and still do, after two weeks) pharyngitis so I was forced to yell at them with a sore throat. Oh and did I mention that none of the children understood English? It made things a bit challenging, to say the least. I was told that the kids will get used to your language and not the other way round. Not cool. But knowing that I was about to leave made it a bit easier.

On my departure morning, I had only slept for four hours but I woke up blissed-out, knowing that I'd finally leave. My lovely friend came to pick up me and my suitcases to the train station at 5:30 am, where I departed on my 12-hour journey to Bremen. I'll tell you guys more about that later, now I'll try to relax and get better with my throat! By the way, we took these pics with some friends in Genoa, hope you enjoy!
